
Certified Sterile Processing Technician

- Perform daily sterilization and decontamination of medical equipment and instruments according to established protocols and guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterilized equipment and supplies.
- Follow strict infection control procedures to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure proper handling and storage of equipment.
- Inspect and test equipment for functionality and report any issues to the appropriate department.
- Keep accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
- Train and educate new staff members on proper sterilization techniques and procedures.
- Adhere to all safety and regulatory standards set forth by governing bodies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with equipment sterilization.

Knowledge Of Sterilization Procedures: A Certified Sterile Processing Technician At Yale New Haven Health System Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Sterilization Techniques, Including Steam, Gas, And Chemical Sterilization Methods. They Should Also Be Familiar With Different Types Of Sterilization Equipment And Instruments.
Certification: The Candidate Should Hold A Current Certification From An Accredited Organization Such As The Certification Board For Sterile Processing And Distribution (Cbspd) Or The International Association Of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (Iahcsmm).
Attention To Detail: The Job Of A Sterile Processing Technician Requires Extreme Attention To Detail To Ensure All Instruments And Equipment Are Properly Cleaned, Assembled, And Sterilized. This Is Crucial For Maintaining A Safe And Sterile Environment For Patients.
Communication Skills: A Certified Sterile Processing Technician Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Other Healthcare Professionals, Such As Nurses And Surgeons, To Ensure Proper Handling And Sterilization Of Instruments. They Should Also Be Able To Communicate Any Issues Or Concerns With Equipment Or Processes To Their Supervisor.
Knowledge Of Infection Control: Infection Control Is A Critical Component Of A Sterile Processing Technician's Job. They Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Infection Control Practices And Protocols To Prevent The Spread Of Infection And Maintain A Safe Environment For Patients And Staff.
