Welcome to the Augusta Savage Gallery at UMass Amherst, a dynamic and diverse community committed to showcasing the work of emerging and established artists from underrepresented backgrounds. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Associate Director. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusivity in the arts and has a strong background in gallery management and curation.   1. Manage day-to-day operations of the Augusta Savage Gallery, including overseeing exhibitions, events, and programs.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with emerging and established artists from underrepresented backgrounds.
  3. Curate and organize exhibitions that promote diversity and inclusivity in the arts, and align with the gallery's mission.
  4. Collaborate with the Director and other staff members to develop strategic plans for the gallery's growth and success.
  5. Create and implement marketing and promotional strategies to increase awareness and attendance at gallery events.
  6. Manage the gallery's budget, including tracking expenses and revenues, and making budget recommendations.
  7. Recruit, train, and supervise gallery interns and volunteers.
  8. Ensure the gallery space is kept clean, safe, and presentable at all times.
  9. Engage with the campus and local community to foster partnerships and collaborations.
  10. Stay up-to-date with current trends and developments in the art world and incorporate them into gallery programming.
  11. Handle all administrative tasks related to the gallery, such as maintaining records and preparing reports.
  12. Represent the gallery at events and conferences, and serve as a spokesperson for the gallery's mission and vision.
  13. Act as a liaison between the gallery and artists, collectors, donors, and other stakeholders.
  14. Continuously evaluate and assess the gallery's impact and make recommendations for improvement.
  15. Uphold the gallery's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of operations and programming.
  16. Adhere to all university policies and procedures, as well as legal and ethical standards in the art world.
  17. Stay organized and efficient in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  18. Collaborate with other staff members to plan and execute special events, such as artist talks, panel discussions, and workshops.
  19. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment for all staff, interns, and volunteers.
  20. Act as a role model for professionalism, creativity, and dedication to promoting diverse artistic expressions.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Art History, Museum Studies, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Art Gallery Management, Exhibition Planning, And Curatorial Work.

  • Knowledge Of Contemporary Art And Artists, Particularly Those From Underrepresented Groups.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Collaborate With Diverse Groups Of People.

  • Demonstrated Leadership And Management Experience, Including Budget Management, Personnel Supervision, And Strategic Planning.
