- Facilitate effective communication between healthcare providers and patients who speak Somali.
- Provide accurate interpretation services during medical appointments, procedures, and consultations.
- Translate medical documents and information from English to Somali and vice versa.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all privacy laws and regulations.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness, ensuring that all patients feel respected and understood.
- Collaborate with other interpreters and healthcare staff to ensure consistent and high-quality interpretation services.
- Familiarize yourself with medical terminology and procedures to accurately convey information to patients.
- Keep up-to-date with any changes or updates in Somali language and terminology.

Fluent In Somali Language: The First And Most Important Qualification For A Somali Interpreter Job At Allina Health System Is Fluency In The Somali Language. Candidates Must Be Able To Accurately Interpret Spoken And Written Communication Between Healthcare Providers And Somali-Speaking Patients.
Excellent Communication Skills: In Addition To Fluency In The Somali Language, Candidates Must Also Possess Strong Communication Skills In English. This Includes The Ability To Interpret Complex Medical Terminology And Effectively Convey Information Between Parties.
Cultural Competency: Allina Health System Values Diversity And Is Committed To Providing Culturally Sensitive Care To Its Patients. Therefore, Candidates For The Somali Interpreter Job Must Demonstrate Cultural Competency And Understanding Of Somali Culture And Customs.
Experience In Healthcare Interpreting: Previous Experience As A Healthcare Interpreter, Particularly In A Hospital Or Clinic Setting, Is Highly Desirable For This Role. Candidates Should Be Familiar With Medical Terminology And Procedures, And Have A Good Understanding Of Patient Confidentiality And Professional Boundaries.
Interpreting Certification: While Not A Requirement, Candidates Who Hold A Certification In Medical Interpreting From A Recognized Organization Such As The National Board Of Certification For Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi) Or The Certification Commission For Healthcare Interpreters (Cchi) Will Have An Advantage In The Hiring Process. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Proficiency In Both The Source And Target Languages, As Well As Knowledge Of Professional Ethics And Standards.
