TUMI

What is the history of TUMI?

TUMI was founded in 1975 by Charlie Clifford and Tomvar Molini in San Francisco, California. Clifford and Molini had a shared passion for luggage and travel, and they wanted to create a line of luggage that was stylish, functional, and of the highest quality. Initially they focused on selling luggage to specialty stores and department stores, and they quickly gained a reputation for their high-end, durable luggage. In 1981, TUMI was acquired by the Samsonite Corporation and a year later the company moved to its corporate headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts. Since then, TUMI has become a global leader in the luggage and travel accessories industry, expanding its product line to include backpacks, briefcases, handbags, and more. TUMI was the first luggage company to produce a Ballistic nylon luggage collection, and over the years they have continued to innovate and create new products that meet the needs of modern travelers.
