What is the vacation policy for Kern County employees?

Kern County employees are eligible to receive paid vacation time based on their length of service. The County's vacation policy allows employees to accrue vacation time at the following rate: • 2 weeks (80 hours) after 1 year of service • 3 weeks (120 hours) after 5 years of service • 4 weeks (160 hours) after 10 years of service • 5 weeks (200 hours) after 15 years of service Vacation is accrued on a bi-weekly basis and may be taken in increments of no less than 4 hours. Vacation is subject to the approval of the employee's department head, and vacation time must be used within the fiscal year it is accrued. Unused vacation time may be carried over to the following fiscal year, but will be reduced to a maximum of 80 hours.
