  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and facilitate the best possible care for cancer patients.
  4. Assist in educating patients and families about the challenges and resources available during their cancer journey.
  5. Advocate for patients and families, ensuring their needs and voices are heard and respected.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient interactions and progress.
  7. Stay current on the latest developments and resources in the field of oncology social work.
  8. Utilize strong communication skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  9. Provide crisis intervention and support to patients and families during difficult times.
  10. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in all aspects of patient care and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  11. Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Collaborate with community organizations and resources to ensure patients have access to necessary support and services.
  13. Act as a resource and provide guidance to other healthcare professionals on psychosocial issues related to cancer care.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Social Work From An Accredited Program: A Social Worker In The Oncology Smilow Ambulatory Department At Yale New Haven Health System Must Possess A Master's Degree In Social Work, With A Focus On Clinical Practice And Oncology.

  • State Licensure: Candidates Must Be Licensed Or Eligible For Licensure As A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Lcsw) In The State Of Connecticut. This Ensures That The Social Worker Has Met The Necessary Educational And Clinical Requirements To Practice In The Field.

  • Experience Working In Oncology Or Healthcare Settings: Previous Experience Working In An Oncology Or Healthcare Setting Is Preferred For This Role. This Ensures That The Social Worker Has A Strong Understanding Of The Unique Needs And Challenges Of Patients And Families Facing A Cancer Diagnosis.

  • Knowledge Of Evidence-Based Practices In Oncology Social Work: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Evidence-Based Practices In Oncology Social Work, Including Psychosocial Assessments, Supportive Counseling, And Resource Referral. This Knowledge Will Be Crucial In Providing High-Quality Care To Patients And Families.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Member Of The Healthcare Team, The Social Worker Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. They Will Be Working Closely With Patients, Families, And Multidisciplinary Teams, And Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With All Members Involved In A Patient's Care.
