Medical Interpreter

This role requires fluency in English and at least one other language, as well as a deep understanding of medical terminology and cultural sensitivity. - Provide accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation services for patients and healthcare providers in a timely manner.
- Conduct medical interpretation in a variety of settings including hospital rooms, clinics, and emergency departments.
- Utilize knowledge of medical terminology to accurately interpret complex medical information for patients and healthcare providers.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to ensure effective communication and understanding between patients and providers.
- Act as a cultural liaison, bridging the gap between patients and healthcare providers from different cultural backgrounds.
- Attend trainings and workshops to maintain and improve interpretation skills and knowledge.
- Coordinate with scheduling department to ensure coverage for all interpretation needs.
- Document and maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided.
- Participate in quality improvement efforts to enhance the overall patient experience.
- Serve as a resource for colleagues and healthcare providers on cultural and language-specific communication needs.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times while representing the organization.

Fluency In At Least Two Languages: As A Medical Interpreter At Yale New Haven Health System, The Ability To Fluently Communicate In English And Another Language (Such As Spanish Or Mandarin) Is Essential. This Ensures Effective Communication Between Patients And Healthcare Providers.
Professional Certification: Yale New Haven Health System May Require Medical Interpreters To Hold A Professional Certification Such As The National Board Of Certification For Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi) Or The Certification Commission For Healthcare Interpreters (Cchi). This Demonstrates A High Level Of Competency And Adherence To Industry Standards.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Is Crucial For Accurately Interpreting And Conveying Medical Information. Medical Interpreters At Yale New Haven Health System Should Possess A Thorough Knowledge Of Medical Terminology In Both English And The Target Language.
Cultural Competency: Medical Interpreters Must Be Culturally Sensitive And Aware In Order To Effectively Navigate And Bridge Cultural Differences Between Patients And Healthcare Providers. This Includes Understanding Cultural Norms And Beliefs, As Well As Being Able To Adapt To Diverse Backgrounds And Situations.
Previous Experience As A Medical Interpreter: Yale New Haven Health System May Prefer Candidates Who Have Prior Experience Working As A Medical Interpreter In A Healthcare Setting. This Experience Demonstrates A Familiarity With The Role, Responsibilities, And Challenges Of Interpreting In A Medical Setting.
