Job Description

We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Children's Emergency Department Milieu Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting children and their families during times of crisis in our emergency department. Your empathetic nature, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will be essential in providing a safe and therapeutic environment for our patients.   1. Provide emotional and psychological support to children and their families during their stay in the emergency department.
  2. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients by following established protocols and procedures.
  3. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure the best possible care for patients.
  4. Assess patients' needs and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  5. Monitor patients' behavior and report any concerning changes to the healthcare team.
  6. Assist with activities and play therapy to promote a sense of calm and comfort for patients.
  7. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and facilitate smooth transitions to other departments or facilities, if necessary.
  8. Document patient observations, interventions, and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with patients and their families.
  10. Attend training sessions and stay updated on best practices and techniques for working with pediatric patients in a crisis.
  11. Demonstrate a positive and compassionate attitude towards patients, families, and colleagues at all times.
  12. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safety protocols.
  13. Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of care provided to pediatric patients.
  14. Act as a resource for families in navigating the healthcare system and connecting them with appropriate support services.
  15. Continuously evaluate and adjust care plans based on patients' progress and changing needs.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Psychology, Social Work, Or A Related Field.

  • Knowledge Of Child Development And Understanding Of Trauma-Informed Care.

  • Previous Experience Working With Children And Families In A Mental Health Or Crisis Intervention Setting.

  • Ability To Work Flexible Hours, Including Weekends And Evenings.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Children, Families, And Interdisciplinary Team Members.
