Job Description

Welcome to Yale New Haven Health System! We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Child Life Specialist to join our team. As a Child Life Specialist, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and their families during their time in the hospital. In this role, you will provide emotional support and promote coping strategies for children facing medical procedures, hospitalization, and other challenging experiences. Our ideal candidate is a highly skilled and empathetic professional with a strong background in child development and experience working with pediatric patients.   1. Provide emotional support and promote coping strategies for children and families facing medical procedures, hospitalization, and other challenging experiences.
  2. Create a supportive and therapeutic environment for child and family interaction.
  3. Utilize knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities to help children cope with medical procedures.
  4. Work collaboratively with healthcare team members to develop individualized plans of care for pediatric patients.
  5. Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the psychological, social, and emotional needs of pediatric patients.
  6. Utilize play, art, music, and other techniques to help children express their thoughts and feelings.
  7. Educate and prepare children for medical procedures using developmentally appropriate language and techniques.
  8. Provide support and guidance for families, including siblings, during their child's hospital stay.
  9. Document and maintain accurate records of child life interventions and progress.
  10. Collaborate with community organizations and volunteers to provide additional support and resources for pediatric patients and their families.
  11. Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in the field of child life.
  12. Comply with ethical and professional standards and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  13. Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary rounds to provide input on patient care plans.
  14. Act as an advocate for pediatric patients and their families to ensure their needs are met.
  15. Foster a culture of compassion, empathy, and inclusivity within the healthcare team.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or A Related Field.

  • Completion Of A Child Life Internship Program Accredited By The Association Of Child Life Professionals (Aclp).

  • Certified Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Designation From The Aclp.

  • Experience Working With Pediatric Patients And Families In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting.

  • Strong Understanding Of Child Development, Coping Strategies, And Family-Centered Care Principles.
