Job Description

Welcome to Valero Energy, one of the largest independent petroleum refiners in the world. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Safety Engineering Intern to join our team for the summer of 2025 at our U.S. refining locations. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make a meaningful impact on our company's safety initiatives.   1. Conduct safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and risks within the refinery.
  2. Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  3. Conduct safety training sessions for employees to promote a culture of safety awareness.
  4. Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  5. Create and maintain safety records and reports.
  6. Participate in incident investigations and provide recommendations for prevention in the future.
  7. Monitor and evaluate safety performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  8. Assist with emergency response and crisis management activities.
  9. Stay updated on industry safety trends and best practices to continuously improve safety programs.
  10. Communicate safety information and initiatives to all levels of the organization.
  11. Act as a safety resource for employees, providing guidance and support as needed.
  12. Participate in safety committee meetings and contribute to the development of safety initiatives.
  13. Proactively identify and address potential safety concerns within the refinery.
  14. Collaborate with other interns and team members on special projects related to safety.
  15. Represent Valero Energy with professionalism and integrity at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Safety Regulations And Industry Standards: As A Safety Engineering Intern At Valero Energy, It Is Essential To Have A Strong Understanding Of Safety Regulations And Industry Standards, Such As Osha, Psm, And Epa Guidelines. This Knowledge Will Help Ensure The Safety Of Employees And The Environment At Valero's Refining Locations.

  • Strong Analytical Skills: As A Safety Engineering Intern, One Must Be Able To Analyze And Interpret Data Related To Safety Incidents, Near-Misses, And Potential Hazards. This Requires Strong Analytical Skills To Identify Trends And Develop Effective Safety Strategies.

  • Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In A Safety Engineering Role, As It Involves Collaborating With Various Teams And Stakeholders, Including Management, Employees, And External Agencies. Excellent Written And Verbal Communication Skills Are Necessary To Convey Safety Information And Recommendations Clearly.

  • Attention To Detail: In The Refining Industry, Even The Smallest Oversight Can Lead To Significant Safety Hazards. Therefore, The Safety Engineering Intern Must Have A Sharp Eye For Detail And Be Able To Identify Potential Safety Hazards And Risks In A Fast-Paced Environment.

  • Ability To Work Independently And In A Team: As A Safety Engineering Intern At Valero Energy, One Must Be Able To Work Independently To Conduct Safety Audits And Assessments.
