Job Description

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking an experienced HIM Emergency Department Coder to join our team in accurately and efficiently coding emergency department patient records. In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement for our hospital while also maintaining compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.   1. Accurately and efficiently code emergency department patient records using ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate reimbursement for the hospital by accurately coding medical records.
  3. Maintain compliance with coding guidelines and regulations, including HIPAA and other healthcare industry standards.
  4. Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment to meet coding deadlines and maintain productivity.
  5. Collaborate with other team members, including physicians and nurses, to clarify coding questions and ensure accurate coding.
  6. Stay up-to-date with changes in coding guidelines and regulations to ensure accurate and compliant coding practices.
  7. Adhere to the University of Vermont Medical Center's coding policies and procedures.
  8. Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure accurate and complete coding of patient records.
  9. Work with electronic health records and coding software to accurately assign codes to patient records.
  10. Communicate any coding discrepancies or issues to the appropriate parties for resolution.
  11. Participate in training and educational opportunities to continuously improve coding skills and knowledge.
  12. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy laws and regulations.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned by the HIM manager or coding supervisor.
  14. Demonstrate a commitment to quality and accuracy in all coding practices.

Job Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist (Ccs) Or Certified Professional Coder (Cpc) Credential From Ahima Or Aapc.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Coding Experience In An Emergency Department Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Icd-10, Cpt, And Hcpcs Coding Systems.

  • Familiarity With Electronic Health Record (Ehr) Systems, Particularly Epic.

  • Understanding Of Emergency Department Workflows And Documentation Requirements.
