  1. Conduct genetic counseling sessions with patients and families to provide information, support, and guidance regarding genetic conditions, testing, and treatment options.
  2. Interpret and explain complex genetic test results to patients and their families in a clear and empathetic manner.
  3. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to develop comprehensive and individualized care plans for patients.
  4. Stay up-to-date on advancements in the field of genetics and incorporate new research and technology into patient care.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, test results, and treatment plans in accordance with confidentiality and privacy policies.
  6. Provide education and resources to patients and families about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and reproductive options.
  7. Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers to ensure effective communication and coordination of care.
  8. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and contribute genetic expertise and recommendations.
  9. Conduct research and contribute to publications and presentations to advance the understanding and treatment of genetic conditions.
  10. Adhere to ethical and professional standards set forth by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and the UVM Medical Center.
  11. Continuously evaluate and improve genetic counseling practices to ensure the highest quality of care for patients.
  12. Represent the UVM Medical Center and uphold its mission and values in all interactions with patients, colleagues, and the community.
  13. Engage in professional development activities, including attending conferences and workshops, to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of genetic counseling.
  14. Contribute to the growth and success of the genetic counseling program at the UVM Medical Center through active participation in departmental initiatives and projects.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program: A Strong Educational Background In Genetic Counseling Is A Fundamental Requirement For A Genetic Counselor At Uvm Medical Center. The Candidate Should Have Completed A Master's Degree Program From An Accredited Institution.

  • Board Certification From The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc): Board Certification From Abgc Is Highly Preferred For This Role. It Ensures That The Candidate Has Met The Rigorous Standards Set By The Board And Is Equipped With The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Provide Genetic Counseling Services.

  • Experience In Clinical Genetics: Uvm Medical Center Is Looking For Candidates Who Have Experience In Providing Clinical Genetics Services. This Includes Conducting Patient Assessments, Providing Genetic Counseling, And Interpreting Genetic Test Results.

  • Strong Communication And Counseling Skills: As A Genetic Counselor, The Candidate Will Be Working Closely With Patients And Their Families.
