Fluency In American Sign Language (Asl): A Qualified Educational Interpreter Must Possess Advanced Proficiency In Asl To Effectively Communicate With Deaf And Hard-Of-Hearing Patients And Their Families.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: The Ability To Understand And Accurately Interpret Complex Medical Terminology Is Essential For An Educational Interpreter Working In A Healthcare Setting.
Certification: A Valid Certification From A Recognized Organization, Such As The Registry Of Interpreters For The Deaf (Rid), Is A Must For An Educational Interpreter At Uvm Medical Center. This Certifies That The Interpreter Has Met The Necessary Standards Of Competency And Professionalism.
Experience In Educational Interpreting: Previous Experience In Educational Interpreting, Specifically In A Medical Or Healthcare Setting, Is Highly Desirable. This Demonstrates The Interpreter's Understanding Of The Unique Demands And Challenges Of This Role.
Sensitivity And Cultural Competence: Working With Diverse Populations, Including Those Who Are Deaf Or Hard-Of-Hearing, Requires A High Level Of Cultural Competence And Sensitivity.
