Job Description

The University of Utah's Advanced Teen Unit is seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Technician to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide compassionate care and support to adolescents in our specialized unit. Our ideal candidate is empathetic, reliable, and has a strong understanding of mental health disorders and treatment.   1. Provide direct care and support to adolescents in our Advanced Teen Unit.
  2. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans for each individual patient.
  3. Monitor and document patients' progress and behaviors, and report any changes or concerns to the treatment team.
  4. Administer prescribed medications and assist with medical procedures under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider.
  5. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients by following established protocols and procedures.
  6. Help educate and support families of patients in understanding and managing their child's mental health issues.
  7. Serve as a role model and mentor for patients, promoting positive coping skills and healthy behaviors.
  8. Continuously assess and address the physical, emotional, and social needs of patients.
  9. Remain current on the latest research and developments in the field of adolescent mental health.
  10. Adhere to all ethical and legal standards and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  11. Attend and actively participate in team meetings and trainings.
  12. Display empathy, patience, and compassion towards patients and their families.
  13. Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with patients, families, and team members.
  14. Maintain a positive and professional attitude, even in challenging situations.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Psychology Or A Related Field: A Strong Foundation In Psychology And Mental Health Is Essential For A Psychiatric Technician Working With Adolescents.

  • Previous Experience Working With Adolescents: Experience Working With Teenagers In A Mental Health Setting, Such As A Psychiatric Hospital Or Residential Treatment Center, Is Highly Preferred.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification: As A Healthcare Professional, A Psychiatric Technician Should Be Trained In Cpr And Basic First Aid In Case Of Emergencies.

  • Knowledge Of Adolescent Mental Health Disorders And Treatment: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Knowledge Of Common Mental Health Disorders In Adolescents And Their Treatment Methods, Such As Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy And Medication Management.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Psychiatric Technician Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Both Patients And Their Families, As Well As Collaborate With Other Members Of The Treatment Team. Strong Interpersonal Skills Are Also Important For Building Rapport With Patients And Promoting A Positive Therapeutic Environment.
