
Animal Care Technician

- Provide daily care and maintenance for research animals according to established protocols and standards.
- Monitor the health and well-being of animals and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding, housing, and health observations.
- Ensure that animal housing facilities are clean and sanitary at all times.
- Prepare and administer diets and medications as directed by research staff.
- Assist with animal handling, restraint, and procedures as necessary.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new animal care staff.
- Adhere to all ethical and regulatory guidelines for the use of animals in research.
- Communicate effectively with researchers, veterinarians, and other team members to ensure the best possible care for animals.
- Continuously evaluate and improve animal care processes and procedures.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the University of Utah and its values.
- Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
- Stay current on best practices and new developments in animal care and research.
- Uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical treatment in all aspects of the job.
Bachelor's Degree In Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Or Related Field.
Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience Working With Animals In A Research Or Veterinary Setting.
Knowledge Of Animal Husbandry And Care, Including Handling Techniques, Nutrition, And Health Monitoring.
Ability To Work Independently And As Part Of A Team, With Excellent Communication And Organizational Skills.
Familiarity With Federal Regulations And Guidelines For Animal Research, Including Aaalac Accreditation And Iacuc Protocols.
