  1. Perform detailed analyses of cellular specimens to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases.
  2. Work closely with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to accurately interpret and report findings.
  3. Utilize advanced laboratory equipment and techniques to ensure high-quality results.
  4. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all analyses and findings.
  5. Participate in research projects and contribute to the development of new diagnostic techniques.
  6. Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  7. Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals regarding test results and patient care.
  8. Stay current with advances in cytology and pathology through ongoing education and training.
  9. Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.

  11. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and assist in maintaining accreditation standards.
  12. Train and mentor new cytotechnologists and laboratory staff.
  13. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and conferences.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Cytotechnology Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Cytotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For A Cytotechnologist-Pathology Position At The University Of Southern California.

  • Cytotechnologist Certification: Candidates Must Possess A Current Cytotechnologist Certification From The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or Other Recognized Certifying Agency.

  • Experience In A Clinical Laboratory Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Clinical Laboratory, Specifically In Cytology, Is Preferred For This Position. This Could Include Experience In Sample Preparation, Staining, And Interpretation Of Cytological Specimens.

  • Knowledge Of Current Laboratory Techniques And Procedures: A Strong Understanding Of Laboratory Techniques And Procedures Used In Cytology, Such As Cell Staining, Microscopy, And Image Analysis, Is Essential For This Role. Knowledge Of Current Trends And Advancements In The Field Is Also Valuable.

  • Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: As A Cytotechnologist-Pathology, One Must Be Able To Accurately Interpret And Analyze Cytological Specimens To Identify Abnormal Cells And Potential Diseases. Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills Are Crucial For Success In This Role.
