Job Description

Welcome to the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS)! We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an Assistant Teaching Professor. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to teaching and shaping the next generation of information professionals. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong background in library and information studies, as well as a desire to continuously learn and grow in their field.   1. Develop and teach courses in library and information studies at the graduate level, including designing syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments.
  2. Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students in their academic and professional development.
  3. Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with trends and best practices in the field.
  4. Collaborate with other faculty members to develop innovative teaching methods and curriculum.
  5. Conduct research in the field of library and information studies and publish findings in academic journals.
  6. Participate in departmental and university committees and meetings.
  7. Serve as an academic advisor to graduate students, assisting them in course selection, career planning, and other academic concerns.
  8. Develop relationships with professional organizations and stay connected to the larger library and information studies community.
  9. Participate in recruitment efforts to attract top graduate students to the program.
  10. Maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students, promoting diversity and inclusivity in the classroom.
  11. Attend conferences and workshops to present research or professional development and represent the GSLIS program.
  12. Collaborate with other departments and programs within the university to promote interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  13. Engage in service to the department, university, and community through participation in events, committees, and outreach activities.
  14. Participate in program assessment and evaluation to ensure continuous improvement and maintain accreditation standards.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the department chair or program director.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree In Library And Information Studies: A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Library And Information Studies Or A Related Field Is Required For This Position. A Phd In Library And Information Studies Is Preferred.

  • Teaching Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience Teaching At The Graduate Level In Library And Information Studies Or A Related Field. Experience Teaching In An Online Or Hybrid Format Is Also Desirable.

  • Knowledge Of Emerging Technologies: The Gslis Program At University Of Rhode Island Places A Strong Emphasis On Incorporating Emerging Technologies Into The Curriculum. The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of These Technologies And How They Can Be Applied In The Library And Information Field.

  • Research And Publication Record: The Assistant Teaching Professor Is Expected To Engage In Scholarly Research And Publication In The Field Of Library And Information Studies. A Strong Record Of Publications And Presentations At Professional Conferences Is Highly Desirable.

  • Commitment To Diversity And Inclusion: The University Of Rhode Island Is Committed To Creating A Diverse And Inclusive Environment.
