- Perform tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining in a timely and accurate manner to ensure efficient workflow and timely diagnostic results.
- Monitor and maintain proper equipment function and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and quality control protocols, including maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other team members to ensure accurate interpretation of results and timely delivery to patients.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new protocols and procedures to improve efficiency and quality of histology services.
- Train and mentor junior histotechnologists and students on proper techniques and procedures.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and reagents, and place orders as needed to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Participate in research studies and assist with data collection and analysis as needed.
- Stay current with advancements in the field of histology and incorporate new techniques and technologies into laboratory operations.
- Represent the University of Pittsburgh and the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department in a professional and respectful manner to patients, colleagues, and external partners.
Bachelor's Degree In Histology, Biology, Or A Related Field.
Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience As A Histology Technician, With At Least 2 Years In A Supervisory Or Leadership Role.
Ascp Certification As A Histology Technician Or Technologist.
Extensive Knowledge Of Laboratory Safety Protocols And Quality Control Procedures.
Proficiency In Operating And Maintaining Histology Equipment, Including Microtomes, Tissue Processors, And Immunohistochemistry Instruments.
