- Greet and welcome patients to the University of Pittsburgh dental clinic with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Prepare treatment rooms for dental procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and properly sterilized.
- Assist dentists during procedures by handing them instruments, anticipating their needs, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Take and develop X-rays as directed by the dentist.
- Provide oral hygiene instructions and demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques to patients.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and billing information.
- Perform basic laboratory procedures such as pouring and trimming models, fabricating temporary crowns, and creating custom trays.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of dental supplies and equipment, placing orders as needed.
- Educate patients on post-operative care and answer any questions or concerns they may have.
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Continuously improve and update professional knowledge and skills through attending workshops, conferences, and other educational opportunities.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patients and staff, fostering a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the dentist or supervisor.
Completion Of An Accredited Dental Assistant Program: Candidates Must Have Successfully Completed An Accredited Program In Dental Assisting, Which Includes Coursework In Radiology, Infection Control, And Dental Procedures.
X-Ray Certification: As A Dental Assistant At The University Of Pittsburgh, Candidates Must Possess A Valid X-Ray Certification From The State In Which The University Is Located. This Ensures That They Have The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Safely Operate X-Ray Equipment.
Cpr Certification: The University Requires All Dental Assistants To Have A Valid Cpr Certification. This Ensures That They Can Respond Quickly And Effectively In The Event Of A Medical Emergency.
Strong Communication Skills: Dental Assistants Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Interact With Patients, Faculty, And Other Healthcare Professionals. They Must Be Able To Explain Procedures, Answer Questions, And Provide Instructions Clearly And Professionally.
Organizational Skills: The University Of Pittsburgh Dental Clinic Sees A High Volume Of Patients, And The Dental Assistant Must Be Able To Manage Multiple Tasks And Appointments Efficiently.
