Job Description

Are you passionate about mentoring and leading young individuals? Do you have a strong interest in education and community outreach? The University of Pennsylvania's Urban Affairs and Community Service (UACS) program is seeking dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Summer Group Leaders. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of high school students from underserved communities through mentoring, academic support, and community service projects. We are looking for candidates who possess excellent communication and leadership skills, a commitment to social justice, and a desire to create meaningful change in the world.   1. Lead and mentor a group of high school students from underserved communities during the summer program.
  2. Create and implement engaging and educational activities for students that align with the program's curriculum.
  3. Provide academic support and guidance to students, ensuring they stay on track with their academic goals.
  4. Serve as a positive role model and provide mentorship to students, helping them develop important life skills and values.
  5. Act as a liaison between the program and the students' families, maintaining open and effective communication.
  6. Organize and supervise community service projects and ensure students are actively engaged in making a positive impact in their community.
  7. Collaborate with other group leaders and program staff to ensure a cohesive and enriching experience for all students.
  8. Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students, promoting diversity and inclusion.
  9. Serve as an advocate for social justice, promoting awareness and understanding among students.
  10. Continuously assess and evaluate the program's effectiveness and provide suggestions for improvement.
  11. Represent the program and the university in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  12. Attend all required training sessions and meetings to enhance knowledge and skills for the role.
  13. Uphold and enforce program rules and expectations, including disciplinary actions when necessary.
  14. Foster a sense of community and teamwork among students, encouraging collaboration and respect.
  15. Continuously strive to create a transformative experience for both students and staff.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience Working With Youth: The Ideal Candidate For A Uacs Summer Group Leader Should Have Previous Experience Working With Children Or Teenagers In A Camp, Educational, Or Recreational Setting. This Experience Demonstrates An Ability To Engage And Manage A Group Of Young Individuals In A Positive And Respectful Manner.

  • Strong Leadership Skills: As A Summer Group Leader, The Individual Will Be Responsible For Overseeing A Group Of Campers And Leading Them In Various Activities. Therefore, The Candidate Should Possess Strong Leadership Skills, Including The Ability To Delegate Tasks, Mediate Conflicts, And Make Quick Decisions When Needed.

  • Knowledge Of University Of Pennsylvania And Its Programs: The Uacs Summer Group Leader Will Be Representing The University Of Pennsylvania, So It Is Important For The Candidate To Have A Good Understanding Of The University And Its Programs. This Knowledge Will Help Them Effectively Communicate With Campers And Parents, And Promote The University's Values And Mission.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Key In Any Leadership Role, And Even More So When Working With Young Individuals. The Uacs Summer Group Leader Should Have Excellent Verbal And Written Communication Skills To Effectively Convey Instructions, Expectations, And Feedback To Campers And Their Parents.

  • Availability During The Summer Months: The Uacs Summer Group Leader Position Is A Seasonal Job That Typically Runs During The Summer Months. Therefore, The Ideal Candidate Should Have Availability During This Time Period And Be Able To Commit To The Full Duration Of The Program. This Includes Being Able To Work Flexible Hours, Including Evenings And Weekends, As Needed.
