Welcome to the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center, one of the world's leading equine veterinary facilities. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Farrier to join our team. As a Farrier at New Bolton Center, you will have the opportunity to work with top veterinarians and researchers, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to provide top-notch hoof care for our equine patients. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced Farrier to make a significant impact on the well-being and performance of our equine athletes.

  1. Provide exceptional hoof care for equine patients through regular trimming and shoeing.
  2. Collaborate with veterinarians and researchers to develop treatment plans for equine patients.
  3. Utilize state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to deliver top-notch hoof care.
  4. Maintain accurate records of all equine patients' hoof care and treatments.
  5. Continuously stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in hoof care.
  6. Monitor and assess the overall health and condition of horses' hooves.
  7. Work closely with other members of the veterinary team to ensure the overall well-being and performance of equine patients.
  8. Assist in the training and education of veterinary students and residents in the field of hoof care.
  9. Communicate effectively with clients and provide recommendations for ongoing hoof care maintenance.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including all tools and equipment.
  11. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when working with horses and handling equipment.
  12. Provide excellent customer service and represent the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center in a professional manner.
  13. Participate in team meetings and discussions to improve and enhance the farrier program.
  14. Follow all ethical and legal guidelines related to the practice of farriery.

Job Qualifications
  • Professional Certification: Candidates Should Have Completed A Formal Apprenticeship Program And Hold A Certification From A Recognized Farriers Association, Such As The American Farriers Association Or The Guild Of Professional Farriers.

  • Experience: The Ideal Candidate Will Have At Least 5 Years Of Experience Working As A Farrier, Preferably In An Equine Veterinary Setting. Experience With A Wide Range Of Equine Breeds And Disciplines Is Highly Desirable.

  • Knowledge Of Equine Anatomy And Physiology: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Equine Anatomy And Physiology, Particularly As It Relates To The Foot And Lower Limb. This Knowledge Is Essential For Diagnosing And Treating Common Hoof Problems.

  • Interpersonal And Communication Skills: As A Farrier At New Bolton Center, The Candidate Will Be Working Closely With A Team Of Veterinarians And Support Staff, As Well As Interacting With Clients. Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.

  • Commitment To Continuing Education: The Equine Industry Is Constantly Evolving, And It Is Important For A Farrier To Stay Up-To-Date On The Latest Techniques And Technologies. Candidates Should Demonstrate A Commitment To Continuing Education And Professional Development.
