
Library Assistant (LIBRA) – Public Services

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer service-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Assistant (LIBRA) in the Public Services department. As a LIBRA, you will play a vital role in providing support to our patrons and ensuring the smooth operation of our library services. - Greet and welcome patrons to the University of Pennsylvania Libraries in a friendly and professional manner.
- Provide excellent customer service to patrons by answering questions, assisting with research needs, and directing them to the appropriate resources.
- Assist patrons with checking out and returning library materials, including books, media, and electronic resources.
- Maintain a clean and organized library space, including shelving and organizing books, materials, and supplies.
- Assist with the circulation of library materials, including checking in and out items, updating records, and processing holds and interlibrary loans.
- Monitor and enforce library policies and procedures to ensure a safe and positive environment for all patrons.
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues with library equipment, such as computers and printers.
- Collaborate with other library staff to plan and execute events and programs for patrons.
- Attend training and professional development sessions to stay updated on library resources and services.
- Proactively identify and report any issues or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with special projects and tasks as assigned by the Public Services department.
- Contribute to the overall success and efficiency of the library by actively seeking ways to improve processes and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information, such as patron records, with discretion.
- Embody the values and mission of the University of Pennsylvania Libraries, and serve as a positive representative of the institution.
- Continuously learn and stay up-to-date on new library technologies and resources to better assist patrons.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions with patrons and colleagues.
Bachelor's Degree In Library Science, Information Science, Or Related Field.
At Least 1-2 Years Of Experience Working In A Library Setting, Preferably In A Public Services Role.
Knowledge Of Library Systems And Databases, Including Experience With Cataloging And Classification.
Strong Customer Service Skills And Ability To Assist And Communicate Effectively With Diverse Patrons.
Familiarity With Academic Research Methods And Resources, As Well As Knowledge Of Current Trends And Technologies In Information Services.
