The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Film Production with a specialization in Directing to join our esteemed faculty in the Department of Film. We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual who is committed to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students in the art and craft of directing for film. As a member of our faculty, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our program and contribute to the vibrant film community in Las Vegas.   1. Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in film production with a focus on directing techniques and theory.
  2. Provide hands-on instruction and guidance to students in all aspects of the filmmaking process, including script development, pre-production, production, and post-production.
  3. Mentor and advise students in their creative projects, providing feedback and guidance to help them develop their unique artistic voices.
  4. Stay current on industry trends and advancements in filmmaking technology, and incorporate these into the curriculum to ensure students are well-prepared for the industry.
  5. Collaborate with other faculty members to continuously improve the film program and its offerings, including developing new courses and programs.
  6. Actively participate in departmental and university committees and events, and represent the film program within the Las Vegas community.
  7. Engage in scholarly and creative activities, such as research, publications, and screenings, to enhance the reputation of the film program and contribute to the field of film studies.
  8. Recruit and retain high-quality students for the film program, and assist in the admissions process.
  9. Serve as a role model and mentor for students, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  10. Contribute to the growth and development of the film program through networking, fundraising, and community outreach initiatives.
  11. Maintain professional relationships with industry professionals and organizations to create opportunities for students and foster partnerships for the film program.
  12. Comply with all university policies and procedures, and maintain appropriate academic and ethical standards.
  13. Participate in faculty development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and keep abreast of best practices in film education.
  14. Perform any other duties as assigned by the department chair or university administration related to teaching, research, and service in the film program.

Job Qualifications
  • Terminal Degree In Film Production Or Related Field: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Terminal Degree (Mfa Or Phd) In Film Production Or A Closely Related Field, Demonstrating A Strong Foundation In The Technical And Creative Aspects Of Film Directing.

  • Professional Experience In Film Directing: Candidates Should Have A Significant Body Of Work As A Film Director, Whether In Independent Or Mainstream Cinema, Showcasing Their Abilities In Storytelling, Visual Style, And Collaborative Leadership.

  • Teaching Experience In Higher Education: Previous Experience Teaching Film Production Courses At The University Level Is Highly Desirable, As It Demonstrates The Candidate's Ability To Effectively Communicate And Mentor Students In The Art And Craft Of Directing.

  • Knowledge Of Industry Trends And Emerging Technologies: The Film Industry Is Constantly Evolving, And The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Current Trends, Techniques, And Technologies In Film Production, Particularly In The Area Of Directing.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Faculty Member, The Candidate Will Be Expected To Work Closely With Students, Colleagues, And Industry Professionals. Therefore, Strong Communication, Collaboration, And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.
