  1. Provide legal counsel and support to faculty, staff, and students at the University of Michigan.
  2. Stay up-to-date on relevant laws and regulations related to higher education and apply them to university policies and procedures.
  3. Collaborate with other members of the legal team to ensure consistency and alignment in legal advice and support.
  4. Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making and provide recommendations.
  5. Draft and review contracts, policies, and other legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.
  6. Advise on potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  7. Work closely with university departments to provide legal guidance on a wide range of issues, including employment, student affairs, intellectual property, and healthcare.
  8. Represent the university in legal proceedings, including mediation and litigation, as needed.
  9. Develop and conduct training programs to educate university employees on legal issues and compliance.
  10. Foster a diverse and inclusive environment by actively promoting social justice and equity within the university community.
  11. Communicate effectively and professionally with all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  12. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and tact.
  13. Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all aspects of the job.
  14. Stay organized and manage a high volume of complex tasks and projects in a timely and efficient manner.
  15. Act as a team player, collaborating with colleagues and supporting the overall goals and mission of the university.

Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School.

  • Active Membership In Good Standing With The State Bar Of Michigan.

  • Experience Practicing Law, Preferably In Higher Education Or A Related Field.

  • Strong Legal Research, Writing, And Analytical Skills.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Diverse Groups And Individuals.
