Job Description

Are you passionate about education and interested in gaining hands-on experience in a university library setting? Look no further than the University of Kentucky's Education Library! We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic student assistant to join our team for the Spring 2025 semester through the Federal Work-Study program. As a student assistant, you will have the opportunity to support the Education Library's mission of providing resources and services to students, faculty, and researchers in the education field. We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a strong attention to detail.   1. Assist with daily operations of the Education Library, including checking in and shelving materials, organizing and maintaining collections, and helping patrons with basic inquiries.
  2. Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and researchers by answering questions, directing them to resources, and helping them navigate the library's online catalog and databases.
  3. Conduct basic research and assist with developing resource guides and instructional materials for the Education Library.
  4. Collaborate with other student assistants and library staff to plan and execute library events and programs, such as workshops and book displays.
  5. Assist with the promotion and marketing of library resources and services through social media and other platforms.
  6. Maintain accurate records and statistics related to library usage, materials, and services.
  7. Attend training sessions and staff meetings to stay updated on library policies and procedures.
  8. Assist in maintaining the physical appearance and organization of the library, including shelving and tidying up work areas.
  9. Provide support for technology and equipment in the library, such as printers, scanners, and computers.
  10. Adhere to all library and university policies and procedures, including respecting patron privacy and confidentiality.
  11. Complete assigned tasks and projects in a timely and efficient manner.
  12. Continuously seek ways to improve and enhance the services and resources offered by the Education Library.
  13. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, reporting any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
  14. Uphold a professional and positive attitude while representing the Education Library.
  15. Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the library, including some evening and weekend hours.

Job Qualifications
  • Currently Enrolled As A Student At The University Of Kentucky, With A Major Or Interest In Education Or Library Science.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Interact With Students And Faculty In A Professional Manner.

  • Ability To Work Independently And In A Team Setting, With A Strong Attention To Detail And Problem-Solving Skills.

  • Knowledge Of Basic Library Research Skills, Including The Ability To Navigate Online Databases And Assist Patrons With Finding Resources.

  • Prior Experience In A Customer Service Or Student Assistant Role, Preferably In A Library Or Educational Setting.
