Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Dental Hygienist to join our team at the University of Kentucky.   1. Perform routine dental cleanings and exams for patients of all ages.
  2. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and provide personalized recommendations for at-home care.
  3. Administer fluoride treatments and apply sealants to prevent tooth decay.
  4. Take and develop dental x-rays to assist in diagnosing oral health issues.
  5. Remove plaque and tartar buildup from teeth and below the gum line.
  6. Conduct periodontal charting and identify signs of gum disease.
  7. Assist dentists in providing treatment to patients, such as applying topical anesthetic or passing instruments.
  8. Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes.
  9. Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and sterile working environment.
  10. Collaborate with other dental team members to ensure the best possible patient care and treatment outcomes.
  11. Stay up-to-date on industry developments and advancements in dental technology and techniques.
  12. Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and addressing any questions or concerns.
  13. Adhere to all ethical and legal standards related to dental hygiene practice.
  14. Participate in continuing education courses to maintain licensure and enhance knowledge and skills.
  15. Uphold the values and mission of the University of Kentucky and the dental clinic.

  • A Degree In Dental Hygiene From An Accredited Program: The University Of Kentucky Requires All Applicants For Their Dental Hygienist Position To Have A Degree In Dental Hygiene From An Accredited Program. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Received Proper Education And Training In The Field.

  • Active State License: Candidates Must Hold An Active State License To Practice As A Dental Hygienist In Kentucky. This License Must Be In Good Standing And Free Of Any Disciplinary Actions.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Dental Hygienists At The University Of Kentucky Are Expected To Communicate Effectively With Patients, Colleagues, And Other Healthcare Professionals. Strong Communication Skills Are Essential For Providing Quality Patient Care And Working As Part Of A Team.
