Job Description

The role will coordinate, monitor and audit documentation and coding of inpatient and/or outpatient services for University of Iowa Healthcare services. Reviews and audits coding and documentation based on federal regulatory requirements, for example, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), official coding guidelines and departmental/internal policies and other applicable laws and regulations. Monitors and coordinates internal and external audits and supplies written summaries of audits; disseminating needed information to other departments. Prepares a written audit report for all noted deficiencies and makes recommendations for improvement. Conducts trend analysis to identify patterns and variations in coding practices and case mix index. Receives and investigates reports of billing/coding compliance variations.

Job Qualifications
  • 4 years of experience in hospital/physician coding, including experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS coding systems is required.

  • Working knowledge of computer coding assistance software programs such as 3M Encoder
