Job Description

The University of Delaware is seeking a skilled and experienced Associate General Counsel to join our legal team and provide expert guidance in employment law matters. As the Associate General Counsel for Employment, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to employment practices.   1. Provide expert legal guidance and advice on all employment law matters to the University of Delaware.
  2. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to employment practices.
  3. Conduct thorough research and analysis on employment laws and regulations to provide accurate and up-to-date information to the university.
  4. Develop and implement policies and procedures to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university's employment practices.
  5. Collaborate with various university departments and stakeholders to address employment-related issues and concerns.
  6. Review and draft employment-related agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.
  7. Represent the university in employment-related legal proceedings, including investigations, hearings, and litigation.
  8. Stay updated on developments and changes in employment laws and regulations and provide proactive recommendations to ensure compliance.
  9. Train and educate university staff and faculty on employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employment-related matters with discretion and professionalism.
  11. Communicate effectively with university leadership and stakeholders to provide updates on employment law matters and address any concerns.
  12. Participate in university committees and working groups related to employment law and contribute to the development of policies and initiatives.
  13. Serve as a role model for upholding the university's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the job.
  14. Mentor and supervise legal staff and provide guidance and support in their professional development.
  15. Ensure ethical and lawful behavior in all employment practices and maintain the university's reputation and integrity.

Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School.

  • Active Membership In Good Standing With The State Bar Association.

  • At Least 5 Years Of Experience Practicing Employment Law, Preferably In A Higher Education Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Federal And State Employment Laws, Including Title Vii, Ada, And Fmla.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Advise And Counsel University Administrators On Complex Legal Matters Related To Employment.
