Group Leader/Instructor, Explorer Camp

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Group Leader/Instructor to join our team at the Explorer Camp at University of California, Berkeley. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and mentor a group of campers, ages 8-12, through a variety of outdoor activities and educational experiences. Your leadership and guidance will be essential in creating a safe and educational environment for our campers to explore and learn. - Lead and instruct a group of campers, ages 8-12, through a variety of outdoor activities and educational experiences
- Plan and implement daily schedules and activities that align with the camp's mission and objectives
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times
- Act as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, patience, and respect for nature and others
- Mentor and guide campers in developing outdoor skills, such as hiking, camping, and navigation
- Facilitate discussions and activities that promote environmental awareness and conservation
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and camp staff to provide updates and address any concerns or issues
- Maintain a clean and organized campsite and equipment
- Demonstrate knowledge and adherence to all safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Collaborate with other camp staff to create a cohesive and engaging camp experience for campers
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve and enhance the camp program
- Display a positive attitude and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
Experience Working With Children: A Group Leader/Instructor At An Explorer Camp Should Have Experience Working With Children In A Camp Or Educational Setting. This Can Include Experience As A Camp Counselor, Teacher, Or Volunteer With Youth Programs.
Knowledge Of Outdoor Activities: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding And Knowledge Of Outdoor Activities Such As Hiking, Camping, And Nature Exploration. They Should Also Have Experience Leading And Instructing These Activities.
First Aid And Cpr Certification: As The Leader And Instructor Of A Group Of Children, It Is Important For The Candidate To Have Current First Aid And Cpr Certification. This Ensures The Safety Of The Campers In Case Of Any Emergencies.
Strong Communication Skills: As A Group Leader/Instructor, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Communicating With Both Campers And Parents. They Should Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Convey Instructions And Information.
Leadership And Teamwork Abilities: A Successful Group Leader/Instructor Should Have Strong Leadership Skills And The Ability To Work Well In A Team. They Will Be Responsible For Guiding And Managing A Group Of Campers, As Well As Collaborating With Other Staff Members To Ensure A Smooth And Successful Camp Experience.
