- Lead and oversee all legal and policy work related to Indigenous food and agriculture systems.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote sustainable and equitable food systems for Indigenous communities.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support the Initiative's mission and goals.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to Indigenous communities on issues related to food and agriculture.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including tribal leaders, government agencies, and community organizations.
- Represent the Initiative in legal proceedings and negotiations.
- Monitor and analyze relevant legislation and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop educational materials and trainings on legal and policy issues affecting Indigenous food and agriculture.
- Supervise and mentor staff attorneys and legal interns.
- Participate in fundraising efforts to support the Initiative's work.
- Stay up-to-date on legal developments and trends related to Indigenous food and agriculture systems.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity and respect within the team and in all interactions with Indigenous communities.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all aspects of work.
- Provide regular updates and reports on the Initiative's legal and policy work to the Executive Director and other stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Of 10 Years Experience In Practicing Law, With A Focus On Indigenous Food And Agriculture Issues.
Juris Doctorate Degree From An Accredited Law School.
Demonstrated Knowledge And Understanding Of Federal Indian Law And Policy, As Well As Tribal Sovereignty And Self-Governance.
Experience In Managing And Supervising Staff, Including Attorneys And Support Personnel.
Strong Communication And Advocacy Skills, With A Track Record Of Successfully Working With Diverse Stakeholders And Building Partnerships Within The Indigenous Food And Agriculture Community.
