- Oversee the management and care of all campus greenhouses and nursery, including maintenance, watering, fertilization, pest control, and other necessary tasks.
- Ensure the health and growth of a diverse range of plants by closely monitoring their conditions and providing necessary care and treatments.
- Assist with research projects related to plant biology and sustainability, and provide expertise and recommendations for improving plant health and growth.
- Educate and train students, faculty, and staff on proper plant care techniques and the importance of sustainability in maintaining a healthy campus environment.
- Develop and implement plans for the ongoing maintenance and expansion of the campus greenhouse and nursery facilities.
- Collaborate with other campus departments to design and implement sustainable landscaping projects and incorporate native plants into campus green spaces.
- Keep accurate records of plant inventory, maintenance schedules, and any changes or updates to the greenhouse and nursery facilities.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research and advancements in greenhouse and nursery management techniques, and implement them as appropriate.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to purchase necessary equipment and supplies for the greenhouse and nursery, while also adhering to budget guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other campus stakeholders to ensure the greenhouse and nursery are meeting the needs and goals of the University of Arkansas.
Bachelor's Degree In Horticulture Or Related Field: A Strong Educational Background In Horticulture Is Essential For A Greenhouse & Nursery Specialist Position At University Of Arkansas. This Degree Will Provide The Necessary Knowledge And Skills In Plant Science, Soil Management, And Pest Control.
Experience In Greenhouse And Nursery Management: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience In Managing A Greenhouse And Nursery, Preferably In A University Setting. This Experience Should Include Plant Propagation, Irrigation, And Pest Management.
Knowledge Of Plant Identification And Care: The Greenhouse & Nursery Specialist Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Different Plant Species, Their Growth Requirements, And Proper Care Techniques. This Includes Knowledge Of Plant Diseases And Pest Control Methods.
Strong Communication And Leadership Skills: As A Part Of The University Of Arkansas Team, The Greenhouse & Nursery Specialist Will Be Responsible For Coordinating With Students, Faculty, And Staff. Strong Communication And Leadership Skills Are Necessary To Effectively Manage And Train A Team Of Student Workers.
Ability To Work Independently And Multitask: The Greenhouse & Nursery Specialist Must Be Self-Motivated And Able To Work Independently, As Well As In A Team Environment. This Role Requires The Ability To Manage Multiple Tasks And Prioritize Responsibilities In A Fast-Paced And Dynamic Setting.
