  13. Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and treatment team members.
  14. Provide resources and referrals to other community resources that may assist in the recovery process.
  15. Adhere to all ethical and legal standards related to peer recovery support.

Job Qualifications
  • Completion Of An Accredited Peer Recovery Specialist Training Program: Candidates For This Position Should Have Completed A Recognized Training Program Specifically Designed For Peer Recovery Specialists. This Program Should Cover Topics Such As Ethics, Communication Skills, Advocacy, And Relapse Prevention.

  • Certification As A Peer Recovery Specialist: In Addition To Completing A Training Program, Candidates Should Also Hold A Current Certification As A Peer Recovery Specialist. This Certification Should Be From A Reputable Organization Such As The International Credentialing And Reciprocity Consortium (Ic&Rc) Or The Association Of Recovery Community Organizations (Arco).

  • Personal Experience With Addiction And Recovery: To Effectively Support Others In Their Recovery Journey, Peer Recovery Specialists Should Have Personal Experience With Addiction And Recovery. This Could Come In The Form Of Their Own Lived Experience Or Through Supporting A Loved One's Recovery.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Peer Recovery Specialist, Candidates Will Be Working Closely With Individuals In Recovery, Their Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals. Therefore, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential To Effectively Build Rapport, Provide Support, And Collaborate With Others.

  • Knowledge Of Community Resources And Support Services: A Successful Peer Recovery Specialist Should Have A Strong Understanding Of The Resources And Support Services Available In Their Community. This Includes Knowledge Of Treatment Programs, Support Groups, And Other Resources That Can Aid In A Person's Recovery Journey.
