  1. Accurately abstract data from patient medical records for the purpose of cancer reporting and research.
  2. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to cancer data collection and reporting.
  3. Maintain a thorough understanding of cancer registry standards and coding practices.
  4. Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary information for cancer registry data collection.
  5. Monitor and track data collection to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  6. Identify and resolve discrepancies in data and medical records.
  7. Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
  8. Utilize electronic health record systems and cancer registry software to enter and retrieve data.
  9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to cancer data collection and reporting.
  10. Maintain knowledge of current trends and advancements in cancer treatment and research.
  11. Provide support and education to healthcare providers and staff regarding cancer registry data collection.
  12. Participate in departmental meetings and trainings as required.
  13. Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations on cancer data for internal and external stakeholders.
  14. Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  15. Uphold the mission and values of Universal Health Services in all aspects of the role.

Job Qualifications
  • In-Depth Knowledge Of Cancer Terminology And Medical Coding: A Cancer Registry Abstractor Must Possess A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Related To Cancer, As Well As Coding Systems Such As Icd-10 And Cpt.

  • Proficiency In Data Abstraction And Analysis: The Ability To Accurately And Efficiently Abstract Data From Medical Records And Analyze It For Quality And Completeness Is Crucial For This Role.

  • Knowledge Of Cancer Registry Software: Familiarity With Cancer Registry Software, Such As Seer*Stat Or Coc Datalinks, Is Essential For Collecting, Managing, And Reporting Cancer Data Effectively.

  • Strong Attention To Detail And Accuracy: As A Cancer Registry Abstractor, Attention To Detail Is Critical To Ensure Accurate And Complete Data Collection And Reporting.

  • Understanding Of Hipaa Regulations And Patient Confidentiality: The Cancer Registry Abstractor Must Adhere To Strict Guidelines And Regulations To Protect Patient Privacy And Maintain The Confidentiality Of Sensitive Medical Information.
