  1. Inspect, maintain, and repair signal systems along railroad tracks to ensure safe and efficient train operations.
  2. Troubleshoot and diagnose signal issues to determine appropriate repairs and maintenance procedures.
  3. Perform regular maintenance and testing of signal equipment, including switches, crossing gates, and communication systems.
  4. Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed, as well as any malfunctions or safety hazards discovered.
  5. Collaborate with other members of the maintenance team to coordinate repairs and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  6. Comply with all safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  7. Continuously monitor signal systems for any potential hazards or malfunctions and take appropriate action to prevent accidents.
  8. Keep up-to-date on industry standards and best practices for signal maintenance and make recommendations for improvements or updates.
  9. Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other railroad employees to coordinate work and report any issues or concerns.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store tools and equipment after use.
  11. Train and mentor new signal maintainers as needed.
  12. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines and completing tasks accurately.
  13. Represent Union Pacific Railroad in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  14. Be available to work flexible hours and respond to emergency situations as needed.
  15. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including attendance and punctuality requirements.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Education Requirement For A Signal Maintainer Job At Union Pacific Railroad Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates Basic Educational Competency And The Ability To Follow Instructions And Complete Tasks Accurately.

  • Technical Or Vocational Training: A Strong Background In Technical Or Vocational Training Is Highly Desirable For A Signal Maintainer Position. This May Include Coursework In Electronics, Electrical Systems, Or Telecommunications. Such Training Provides A Foundation For Understanding The Complex Signaling Systems Used In Railroad Operations.

  • Previous Signal Maintenance Experience: Prior Experience In Signal Maintenance Is A Key Qualification For This Job. Ideal Candidates Will Have A Proven Track Record Of Troubleshooting And Repairing Signal Equipment, Understanding Signal Circuitry, And Maintaining Signal Systems In Accordance With Industry Standards And Regulations.

  • Knowledge Of Railroad Operations And Safety: Union Pacific Railroad Requires Signal Maintainers To Have A Solid Understanding Of Railroad Operations And Safety Regulations. This Includes Knowledge Of Track And Train Movements, Signaling Procedures, And The Ability To Identify Potential Hazards And Take Appropriate Safety Precautions.

  • Physical Fitness And Dexterity: Signal Maintainers Are Required To Work Outdoors In All Weather Conditions And Must Possess Physical Fitness And Dexterity To Perform The Job. This Includes The Ability To Climb Ladders, Work At Heights, And Lift And Carry Heavy Equipment. Candidates Must Also Be Able To Adapt To Changing Work Schedules And Be Available For On-Call Duty As Needed.
