
Safety Specialist

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Specialist to join our team and help us maintain our high safety standards. As a Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating potential safety hazards on our railroad operations. We are looking for someone who is passionate about safety and has the necessary qualifications to excel in this role.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of Union Pacific Railroad operations to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Develop and implement safety programs and procedures in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
- Train employees on safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and promote a safety-conscious culture.
- Investigate and analyze safety incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with other departments and teams to identify and address potential safety hazards and risks.
- Stay updated on industry developments and changes in safety regulations to ensure compliance and implement best practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records and reports for internal and external use.
- Conduct safety training and orientation for new employees and contractors.
- Provide guidance and support to employees and supervisors on safety-related matters.
- Participate in safety committees and meetings to discuss safety concerns and implement solutions.
- Coordinate with external agencies and stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies and emergency responders, to ensure effective emergency response plans are in place.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and procedures and make necessary improvements.
- Communicate and promote safety initiatives and goals to all levels of the organization.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources department to ensure compliance with all safety-related employment laws and regulations.
- Provide recommendations for safety-related budget needs, such as equipment and training materials.
Knowledge Of Federal And State Safety Regulations, Including Osha, Fra, And Dot.
Bachelor's Degree In Occupational Health And Safety, Environmental Science, Or Related Field.
Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In Safety Management, Preferably In The Railroad Industry.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Train And Educate Employees On Safety Procedures.
Certification In Relevant Safety Programs, Such As Certified Safety Professional (Csp) Or Occupational Health And Safety Technician (Ohst).
