Job Description

At UNC Health Care, we are looking for a Mental Health Technician to join our Emergency Department team. The Mental Health Technician will be responsible for providing compassionate, patient-centered care to those in need of mental health services. Our ideal candidate should have a passion for helping others and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.The Mental Health Technician will provide direct patient care, including observation, assessment, and treatments, in a safe, therapeutic, and respectful manner. They will also provide support in developing an individualized plan of care and assisting with the implementation of this plan. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of an Associate Degree in mental health or a related field, have experience in working with individuals with mental illness, and be certified in Mental Health First Aid or Crisis Intervention. Additionally, the ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, empathy, and knowledge of patient rights. Responsibilities:

  1. Provide direct patient care, including observation, assessment, and treatments, in a safe, therapeutic, and respectful manner.
  2. Develop and assist with the implementation of individualized plans of care.
  3. Provide support to individuals with mental illness.
  4. Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate knowledge of patient rights.
  5. Utilize effective written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrate empathy and understanding with patients.
  7. Utilize Mental Health First Aid or Crisis Intervention when necessary.
  8. Maintain a positive team-oriented attitude.
  9. Work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (Cna) Certification

  • Excellent Interpersonal Communication Skills

  • At Least Two Years Of Experience Providing Direct Patient Care

  • Current Cpr And Bls Certification

  • Knowledge Of Health Care Laws And Regulations

  • Ability To Work Effectively In A Fast-Paced Environment

  • Ability To Provide Emotional Support To Patients In Crisis.
