HIM Assistant

We are seeking an experienced and motivated HIM Assistant to join our team at UNC Health Care! The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for healthcare and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The HIM Assistant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) department and providing assistance to HIM staff.The successful applicant will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting or Health Information Management. They will be knowledgeable in medical terminology as well as experience with coding, data entry, filing, release of information, and scanning. Additionally, they will possess excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The HIM Assistant must also have knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality. Responsibilities:

1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) department.
2. Provide assistance to HIM staff, including coding, data entry, filing, release of information, and scanning.
3. Maintain knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA.
4. Ensure HIPAA and other confidentiality regulations are followed.
5. Provide excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
6. Work independently and as part of a team.
7. Assist with audits as needed.
8. Update and maintain patient records as needed.
9. Monitor performance and accuracy of HIM staff.
10. Assist with training and development of new hires.
