Job Description

Welcome to UMass Amherst, home to one of the largest and most renowned plumbing and steamfitting teams in the region. We are looking for a skilled and experienced Plumber & Steamfitter to join our team and contribute to the maintenance and repair of our diverse campus buildings and systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plumbing and steamfitting, as well as a commitment to delivering high-quality work with exceptional attention to detail.   1. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plumbing and steamfitting systems throughout the UMass Amherst campus.
  2. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with plumbing and steamfitting systems.
  3. Conduct inspections and evaluations of existing systems to identify potential problems and recommend solutions.
  4. Install new plumbing and steamfitting systems, including piping, fixtures, and equipment.
  5. Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  6. Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to coordinate work and ensure minimal disruption to campus operations.
  7. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations at all times.
  8. Keep up-to-date with industry advancements and techniques to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
  9. Assist with emergency repairs and respond to urgent situations as needed.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  11. Collaborate with other team members to complete larger projects or tasks.
  12. Train and mentor junior team members as needed.
  13. Provide excellent customer service and represent UMass Amherst in a professional manner.
  14. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Plumber & Steamfitter I At Umass Amherst Should Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent, Demonstrating A Basic Level Of Education And Ability To Learn.

  • Trade School Or Apprenticeship Program: Ideally, Candidates Should Have Completed A Trade School Program Or Apprenticeship In Plumbing And Steamfitting, Providing Them With Hands-On Experience And Technical Knowledge In The Field.

  • Valid Plumbing And Steamfitting License: Candidates Should Possess A Valid Plumbing And Steamfitting License, Demonstrating Their Expertise And Adherence To Industry Standards And Regulations.

  • Physical Strength And Stamina: The Job Of A Plumber & Steamfitter I Can Be Physically Demanding, Requiring Candidates To Have The Strength And Stamina To Perform Tasks Such As Lifting Heavy Equipment And Working In Cramped Spaces.
