Job Description

Are you a skilled plumber with a passion for maintaining and repairing complex plumbing systems? Do you have experience in steamfitting and a desire to work in a dynamic and diverse environment?   1. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plumbing and steam systems throughout the UMass Amherst campus.
  2. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with plumbing and steam systems, and make necessary repairs.
  3. Install new plumbing and steam equipment as needed.
  4. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while working on plumbing and steam systems.
  5. Keep accurate records of work completed and materials used.
  6. Collaborate with other members of the maintenance team to ensure efficient and effective functioning of all systems.
  7. Stay up-to-date on industry advancements and best practices in plumbing and steamfitting.
  8. Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to report progress and any issues that may arise.
  9. Provide excellent customer service to the campus community by responding promptly and professionally to maintenance requests.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area, and ensure proper storage and disposal of materials.
  11. Assist in training and mentoring new team members as needed.
  12. Adhere to all university policies and procedures.
  13. Attend and actively participate in team meetings and training sessions.
  14. Continually seek opportunities to improve processes and procedures for plumbing and steam systems.
  15. Represent UMass Amherst in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  16. Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Plumber And Steamfitter I At Umass Amherst Should Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent To Demonstrate Basic Educational Qualifications.

  • Apprentice Or Trade School Certification: Candidates Should Have Completed An Apprenticeship Program Or A Trade School Certification In Plumbing And Steamfitting To Showcase Their Technical Skills And Knowledge In The Field.

  • Relevant Work Experience: Umass Amherst May Require A Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Work Experience In Plumbing And Steamfitting, Preferably In A Commercial Or Institutional Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Plumbing And Steamfitting Codes And Regulations: The Plumber And Steamfitter I Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Plumbing And Steamfitting Codes And Regulations To Ensure Compliance With Building Safety Standards.

  • Physical Stamina And Dexterity: The Job Of A Plumber And Steamfitter I At Umass Amherst Can Be Physically Demanding, Requiring Candidates To Have Good Physical Stamina And Dexterity To Work With Heavy Equipment And Tools, Climb Ladders, And Perform Other Physically Taxing Tasks.
