In this role, you will provide crucial support and advocacy services to students, faculty, and staff who have experienced sexual or domestic violence.   1. Provide direct support and advocacy services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence on campus.
  2. Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop individualized support plans for survivors.
  3. Serve as a confidential and trusted resource for survivors, providing emotional support and referrals to appropriate resources.
  4. Coordinate and facilitate support groups and educational workshops for survivors and the campus community.
  5. Stay up-to-date on best practices and trends in the field of sexual and domestic violence to ensure high-quality support and advocacy services.
  6. Collaborate with campus partners and community organizations to ensure a coordinated and holistic response to sexual and domestic violence.
  7. Maintain accurate and confidential records and statistics related to services provided.
  8. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
  9. Serve as a liaison between survivors and campus administrators, advocating for survivor-centered policies and protocols.
  10. Contribute to the creation and implementation of prevention and awareness campaigns to promote a culture of consent and healthy relationships.
  11. Provide crisis intervention and support to survivors in emergency situations.
  12. Uphold the principles of social justice and actively work towards creating a safe and inclusive campus environment for all.
  13. Foster a sense of empowerment and agency in survivors, helping them to regain control over their lives and make informed decisions.
  14. Support survivors through the legal and reporting process, including accompanying them to meetings and hearings.
  15. Maintain a non-judgmental and trauma-informed approach in all interactions with survivors.
  16. Participate in on-call rotations and respond to crisis situations outside of regular business hours.
  17. Conduct outreach and awareness efforts to educate the campus community on issues related to sexual and domestic violence.
  18. Adhere to all confidentiality and ethical guidelines in accordance with state and federal laws.
  19. Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall mission and goals of the organization.

Job Qualifications
  • Degree In Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In A Relevant Field Is Typically Required For This Position. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of The Dynamics Of Sexual And Domestic Violence And The Necessary Skills To Provide Effective Support And Advocacy For Victims.

  • Experience Working With Survivors Of Sexual And Domestic Violence: Previous Experience Working With Survivors Of Sexual And Domestic Violence Is Highly Valued For This Position. This Could Include Direct Advocacy Work, Counseling, Or Volunteer Experience With A Related Organization.

  • Knowledge Of Relevant Laws And Resources: A Strong Understanding Of Federal And State Laws Related To Sexual And Domestic Violence Is Essential For A Civilian Advocate. Additionally, Knowledge Of Local Resources And Services Available To Victims Is Important In Order To Provide Appropriate Referrals And Support.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Effective Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Crucial For A Civilian Advocate, As They Will Be Working Closely With Victims, Law Enforcement, And Other Professionals. The Ability To Listen Actively, Provide Emotional Support, And Communicate Clearly And Sensitively Is Essential.

  • Empathy And Cultural Competence: The Role Of A Civilian Advocate Requires A High Level Of Empathy And Cultural Competence. The Ability To Understand And Respect The Diverse Backgrounds And Experiences Of Survivors Is Important In Order To Provide Effective Support And Advocacy.
