  1. Provide personalized academic counseling and guidance to students from diverse backgrounds to help them achieve their academic goals.
  2. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the University's academic programs, policies, and procedures to effectively advise students.
  3. Assist students in selecting appropriate courses, majors, and academic pathways based on their interests, strengths, and academic requirements.
  4. Help students develop and maintain academic plans and monitor their progress towards graduation.
  5. Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions to address students' academic concerns and provide support and resources as needed.
  6. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other departments to develop and implement programs and initiatives that promote academic success and retention.
  7. Stay updated on current trends and best practices in academic counseling and higher education to continuously improve services for students.
  8. Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation related to academic counseling.
  9. Serve as a resource for students on academic policies, procedures, and resources available on campus.
  10. Participate in recruitment and orientation activities to help new students transition to the University and understand academic expectations.
  11. Act as an advocate for students and refer them to appropriate campus resources for additional support as needed.
  12. Communicate regularly with students, faculty, and staff to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to student success.
  13. Contribute to the development and evaluation of academic counseling programs and services to meet the changing needs of students.
  14. Attend professional development opportunities and engage in ongoing training to enhance counseling skills and stay informed of changes in academic policies and procedures.
  15. Embody the University's mission and values and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions with students and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Counseling, Education, Or A Related Field

  • At Least 3 Years Of Experience In Academic Counseling Or Advising At The College Level

  • Knowledge Of Umass Amherst's Academic Policies, Procedures, And Resources

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Work With Students, Faculty, And Staff From Diverse Backgrounds

  • Familiarity With Career Development, Study Abroad Opportunities, And Other Academic Support Services Offered At Umass Amherst.
