- Develop and implement a comprehensive federal government relations strategy aligned with UCLA's mission and goals.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key federal government stakeholders, including members of Congress, agencies, and associations.
- Monitor and track relevant legislation, regulations, and policies at the federal level that may impact UCLA and its mission.
- Represent UCLA's interests and advocate for policies and funding that support the university's priorities and initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, faculty, and staff, to identify and prioritize federal government relations efforts.
- Prepare and deliver testimony, briefings, and other materials to communicate UCLA's position on key issues to federal policymakers.
- Serve as a liaison between UCLA and federal agencies, providing timely and accurate information and responding to inquiries.
- Develop and manage a budget for federal government relations activities and initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to other departments and units within UCLA on federal government relations matters.
- Stay informed of trends and developments in higher education and federal government affairs and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and other stakeholders on federal government relations activities and outcomes.
- Represent UCLA at relevant conferences, events, and meetings to promote the university's interests and build relationships with key stakeholders.
- Supervise and mentor a team of government relations professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in all federal government relations activities.
- Collaborate with other institutions of higher education and associations to advance common goals and objectives at the federal level.
Extensive Knowledge Of Federal Government Processes And Procedures: The Ideal Candidate For This Role Should Have A Deep Understanding Of How The Federal Government Operates And How Policies Are Developed And Implemented.
Strong Communication And Advocacy Skills: As A Senior Director Of Federal Government Relations, The Candidate Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Government Officials, Stakeholders, And The Public To Advocate For Ucla's Interests.
Political Savvy And Strategic Thinking: The Candidate Should Possess Strong Political Acumen And Be Able To Think Strategically To Advance Ucla's Agenda In The Federal Government.
Experience In Government Relations Or Public Policy: A Successful Candidate Should Have A Proven Track Record In Government Relations Or Public Policy, Preferably With Experience In A Higher Education Or Research Institution.
Leadership And Management Experience: The Senior Director Will Oversee A Team Of Government Relations Professionals And Must Have The Ability To Lead And Manage A Team Effectively To Achieve Desired Outcomes. Previous Experience In A Leadership Role Is Highly Desirable.
