  1. Provide expert genetic counseling services to patients and families who may be at risk for inherited conditions.
  2. Conduct thorough assessments of patients' medical history and family history to determine their risk for genetic conditions.
  3. Interpret genetic test results and communicate them effectively to patients and their families.
  4. Develop personalized management plans and provide ongoing support and education to patients.
  5. Collaborate with healthcare providers and other members of the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
  6. Stay updated on current advancements and research in the field of genetics to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information to patients.
  7. Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient consultations and treatment plans.
  8. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in genetic counseling, including maintaining patient confidentiality.
  9. Participate in educational and outreach activities to raise awareness and educate the community about genetic conditions.
  10. Contribute to research projects and publications related to genetics and genetic counseling.
  11. Continuously evaluate and improve the genetic counseling services provided by UCLA Health.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program: Ucla Health Requires All Genetic Counselors To Have Completed A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program, Ensuring They Have Received Comprehensive Training In The Field.

  • Board Certification From The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc): Candidates Must Possess Board Certification From The Abgc, Which Demonstrates Their Commitment To Upholding The Highest Standards Of Practice In Genetic Counseling.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Genetics And Medical Terminology: A Successful Genetic Counselor At Ucla Health Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Genetics And Medical Terminology To Effectively Communicate Complex Genetic Information To Patients And Their Families.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Genetic Counselor, The Ability To Communicate Complex Information In A Clear And Compassionate Manner Is Crucial. Candidates Should Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Patients And Their Families.

  • Previous Experience In Genetic Counseling: While Not Required, Previous Experience In Genetic Counseling Is Highly Valued At Ucla Health. This May Include Internships, Clinical Rotations, Or Previous Employment In A Genetic Counseling Setting.
