- Provide sign language interpretation for deaf or hard of hearing patients during medical appointments, procedures, and consultations.
- Accurately convey medical information and instructions between patients, medical staff, and other healthcare providers.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and maintain patient privacy at all times.
- Stay up-to-date on medical terminology and procedures to ensure accurate interpretation.
- Serve as a cultural liaison between patients and medical staff, assisting with cultural competency and sensitivity in communication.

Proficiency In American Sign Language (Asl) - The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Be Fluent In Asl, Which Is The Primary Language Used By The Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Community.
Certification As A Sign Language Interpreter - To Be Considered For This Job, Candidates Should Hold A Valid Certification From A Recognized Organization, Such As The Registry Of Interpreters For The Deaf (Rid). This Ensures That The Interpreter Has The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Effectively Communicate With Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Individuals.
Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting - Previous Experience Interpreting In A Healthcare Environment Is Preferred For This Position. This Demonstrates An Understanding Of Medical Terminology And The Ability To Interpret Complex Medical Information Accurately.
Knowledge Of Deaf Culture - A Strong Understanding Of Deaf Culture Is Essential For A Sign Language Interpreter. This Includes An Understanding Of Cultural Norms, Values, And Communication Styles Within The Deaf Community.
