- Facilitate Communication: Act as a liaison between healthcare providers and Spanish-speaking patients to ensure clear and accurate communication.
- Provide Interpretation: Interpret accurately and impartially between Spanish and English languages in various medical settings, including appointments, consultations, and procedures.
- Promote Cultural Competency: Demonstrate a deep understanding and respect for cultural differences and effectively navigate cultural nuances in communication.
- Ensure Privacy and Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions with patients and healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with Healthcare Team: Work closely with healthcare providers to understand patient needs and provide support in delivering appropriate care and treatment.
- Educate Patients: Help patients understand their medical conditions, treatment plans, and instructions from healthcare providers by providing language assistance and clarification.
- Document Interpretation: Accurately document all interpretation services provided in medical records and maintain records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Stay Updated on Medical Terminology: Keep up-to-date with medical terminology and procedures to ensure accurate interpretation and effective communication.
- Serve as a Cultural Resource: Provide cultural insights and act as a resource for healthcare providers and staff to enhance their understanding of the diverse populations they serve.

Fluency In Both Spanish And English: A Medical Interpreter At Uchealth Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate In Both Spanish And English To Accurately Convey Medical Terminology And Information.
Medical Terminology Knowledge: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Is Essential For A Medical Interpreter To Accurately Interpret And Translate Medical Information For Patients And Healthcare Providers.
Interpreting Training And Certification: Uchealth Requires Its Medical Interpreters To Have Completed Formal Interpreting Training And Be Certified By A Recognized Organization, Such As The National Board Of Certification For Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi) Or The Certification Commission For Healthcare Interpreters (Cchi).
Cultural Competency: As A Medical Interpreter, It Is Important To Have A Deep Understanding And Respect For Cultural Differences, As Well As The Ability To Bridge Any Cultural Gaps That May Arise During Interactions With Patients And Healthcare Providers.
Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting Is Preferred For A Medical Interpreter At Uchealth. This Experience Helps To Familiarize The Interpreter With Medical Terminology And Procedures, As Well As The Unique Needs Of Patients And Providers In A Healthcare Setting.
