Job Description

  1. Serve as a bridge between patients and healthcare providers by providing accurate and effective interpretation services.
  2. Facilitate communication between patients and providers by accurately interpreting medical terminology and complex information.
  3. Ensure cultural sensitivity and understanding in all interactions with patients and providers.
  4. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards of practice in all interactions.
  5. Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide the best possible care for patients with limited English proficiency.
  6. Educate healthcare providers on cultural differences and how they may impact patient care.
  7. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of interpretation services.
  8. Continuously update and improve language and medical terminology skills to maintain high-quality interpretation services.
  9. Provide emotional support and empathy to patients during medical appointments.
  10. Work with patients and providers to resolve any language or communication barriers that may arise.

Job Qualifications
  • Fluency In English And At Least One Other Language: Medical Interpreters At Uchealth Must Be Able To Fluently Speak, Read, And Write In English And At Least One Other Language, Such As Spanish, Chinese, Or Arabic.

  • Professional Certification: Uchealth Prefers Medical Interpreters To Have A Professional Certification, Such As Certified Medical Interpreter (Cmi) Or National Board For Certification Of Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi), To Ensure Their Proficiency And Understanding Of Medical Terminology.

  • Knowledge Of Medical Terminology And Procedures: As A Medical Interpreter At Uchealth, Candidates Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology And Procedures To Accurately Interpret Between Patients And Healthcare Providers.

  • Cultural Competence: It Is Crucial For Medical Interpreters At Uchealth To Be Culturally Competent And Have A Deep Understanding Of Different Cultural Backgrounds And Customs To Effectively Communicate With Patients And Families From Diverse Backgrounds.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Ability To Communicate Clearly And Effectively In Both The Source And Target Languages Is Essential For A Medical Interpreter At Uchealth. Interpersonal Skills, Such As Active Listening And Empathy, Are Also Important For Building Rapport With Patients And Healthcare Providers.
