- Serve as a cultural liaison between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring understanding and respect for cultural differences.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Facilitate communication during medical procedures, appointments, and consultations.
- Translate medical documents and materials as needed.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure accurate and complete communication.

Fluency In Multiple Languages: A Medical Interpreter At Uchealth Must Be Fluent In At Least Two Languages, Including English And Another Commonly Spoken Language In The Local Community. This Ensures Effective Communication With Patients And Healthcare Professionals.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Is Essential For A Medical Interpreter. They Must Be Able To Accurately Interpret Complex Medical Terminology And Convey It To Patients In A Clear And Understandable Manner.
Cultural Competency: Uchealth Serves A Diverse Patient Population, And A Medical Interpreter Must Possess Cultural Competency To Provide Culturally Sensitive And Appropriate Interpretation Services.
Excellent Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is A Crucial Aspect Of A Medical Interpreter's Job. They Must Have Excellent Verbal And Written Communication Skills To Accurately Interpret Information Between Patients And Healthcare Professionals.
Medical Interpreting Certification: Uchealth Requires Medical Interpreters To Have Completed A Recognized Medical Interpreting Training Program And Hold A Certification From A Reputable Organization Such As The National Board Of Certification For Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi) Or The Certification Commission For Healthcare Interpreters (Cchi).
