  1. Provide personalized genetic counseling services to patients and their families.
  2. Conduct thorough assessments of patients' medical and family histories to identify potential genetic risks.
  3. Educate patients and their families on the role of genetics in health and disease.
  4. Interpret and communicate complex genetic information in an understandable manner.
  5. Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop individualized care plans for patients.
  6. Stay up-to-date on the latest research and advancements in genetics to provide the most accurate and current information to patients.
  7. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards in genetic counseling.
  8. Demonstrate empathy and compassion when working with patients and their families.
  9. Provide emotional support and resources to patients and their families as they navigate genetic testing and potential diagnoses.
  10. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and develop treatment plans.
  11. Document patient interactions and maintain accurate records.
  12. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients.
  13. Conduct genetic testing and coordinate with laboratory services as needed.
  14. Provide referrals to other specialists and resources as necessary.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve genetic counseling practices and protocols.
  16. Participate in community outreach and education programs to increase awareness and understanding of genetics and genetic counseling.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling: A Minimum Requirement For A Genetic Counselor Position At Uchealth Would Be A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program. This Degree Provides The Necessary Training And Knowledge In Genetics, Counseling, And Medical Ethics.

  • Certification By The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc): Uchealth May Prefer Candidates Who Are Certified By The Abgc, Which Is The Highest Standard For Genetic Counseling Professionals. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Competency And Expertise In The Field.

  • Experience In Adult Medical Genetics: Uchealth May Require Candidates To Have Previous Experience In Adult Medical Genetics, Either Through Internships, Clinical Rotations, Or Work Experience. This Experience Would Provide A Strong Foundation In Working With Patients And Families Who Have Genetic Conditions Or Are At Risk For Them.

  • Strong Communication And Counseling Skills: As A Genetic Counselor, Effective Communication And Counseling Skills Are Crucial In Providing Support And Guidance To Patients And Their Families. Uchealth May Look For Candidates Who Have Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Empathy, And The Ability To Explain Complex Medical Information In A Clear And Understandable Manner.

  • Knowledge Of Current Genetic Testing And Technology: Genetic Testing And Technology Are Constantly Evolving, And It Is Essential For Genetic Counselors To Stay Updated On The Latest Advancements In The Field. Uchealth May Prefer Candidates Who Have A Strong Knowledge Of Current Genetic Testing Methods And Technology, As Well As The Ability To Interpret And Explain Test Results To Patients.
