  1. Assist genetic counselors in conducting patient consultations and follow-up appointments.
  2. Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families throughout the genetic counseling process.
  3. Gather and organize patient medical history and family pedigree information for use during counseling sessions.
  4. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  5. Assist in the coordination of genetic testing and follow-up care for patients.
  6. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
  7. Educate patients and families on genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and available resources.
  8. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and records of patient encounters.
  9. Assist with office administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and answering phone calls.
  10. Stay updated on latest advancements and research in the field of genetics and actively participate in continuing education opportunities.
  11. Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure all equipment is in proper working condition.
  12. Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude towards patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  13. Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving patient care and processes.
  14. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  15. Maintain a compassionate and empathetic approach towards patients and their families.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In A Relevant Field Such As Genetics, Biology, Or Psychology Is Required For This Position.

  • Knowledge Of Genetic Counseling Principles: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Genetic Counseling Principles And Practices, As Well As A Basic Knowledge Of Genetics And Genetic Testing.

  • Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting, Such As A Hospital Or Clinic, Is Preferred. This Will Demonstrate The Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced And Patient-Focused Environment.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: The Genetic Counseling Assistant Will Be Responsible For Communicating Complex Genetic Information To Patients And Their Families. Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Are Essential For This Role.

  • Compassion And Empathy: Genetic Counseling Can Often Involve Sensitive And Emotional Discussions. The Candidate Should Possess A High Level Of Compassion, Empathy, And Sensitivity When Working With Patients And Families.
