Job Description

  1. Provide compassionate and comprehensive care to victims of violence and sexual assault.
  2. Conduct thorough assessments of patients, including physical and psychological evaluations.
  3. Collect and document forensic evidence, following established protocols and procedures.
  4. Collaborate with law enforcement and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper handling and documentation of evidence.
  5. Communicate effectively with patients to provide emotional support and educate them on their rights and options.
  6. Utilize critical thinking skills to identify and address any potential safety concerns for patients.
  7. Maintain accurate and organized documentation of patient care, evidence collection, and any pertinent information.
  8. Stay up-to-date on current trends, laws, and protocols related to forensic nursing.
  9. Work closely with interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to patients.
  10. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in patient care and evidence collection.
  11. Attend to the needs of patients in a timely and efficient manner.
  12. Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity when interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  13. Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance knowledge and skills related to forensic nursing.
  14. Serve as an advocate for victims, promoting their rights and providing resources and referrals as needed.
  15. Act as a liaison between law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other agencies involved in the care of patients.
  16. Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of patients at all times.
  17. Provide testimony in court as needed.
  18. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure optimal care and outcomes for patients.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For A Forensic Nurse Examiner Position At Uchealth. This Education Provides A Strong Foundation In Healthcare And Nursing Principles, Which Are Essential For This Role.

  • Registered Nurse (Rn) License: A Valid And Current Rn License Is A Must-Have For Any Forensic Nurse Examiner At Uchealth. This Ensures That The Individual Has Completed The Necessary Training And Is Qualified To Provide Medical Care And Treatment To Patients.

  • Certification As A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (Sane): Uchealth May Require Their Forensic Nurse Examiners To Have Specialized Training And Certification As A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. This Certification Demonstrates Expertise In Conducting Medical Exams And Collecting Evidence In Cases Of Sexual Assault.

  • Experience In Forensic Nursing: Previous Experience In Forensic Nursing Is Highly Desirable For A Forensic Nurse Examiner Position At Uchealth. This May Include Experience In Conducting Forensic Exams, Collecting Evidence, And Providing Testimony In Court Cases.

  • Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills: Forensic Nurse Examiners At Uchealth Must Possess Excellent Communication And Collaboration Skills. They Will Be Working With A Multidisciplinary Team Of Law Enforcement, Social Workers, And Other Healthcare Professionals, So The Ability To Effectively Communicate And Work Together Is Crucial.
